A central piece in Hindu scripture reads
"Gurur Brahma, Gurur Vishnu, Guru devo Maheshwaraha - Gurussaakshaath param brahma tasmai shree gurave namaha,"
which translates as :
"The Guru is the Lord Brahma ,
the Guru is the Lord Vishnu ,
the Guru is the Lord Shiva ,
the Guru is the Supreme Brahman
visible to our eyes.
To that Guru we offer our salutations"
Here,
Guru means 'Teacher',
Lord Brahma means ' The Creator',
Lord Vishnu is 'The Preserver',
Lord Shiva is 'The Destroyer',
and Supreme Brahaman is 'The Ultimate Reality'.
