For the advanced student, participation in research should be part and parcel of the curriculum. Mathematics is an activity that can be learnt only by doing it. A young colleague told me that when turning to research after a successful study of Mathematics, he had believed that mathematical papers are invented in the style in which they are written and for a long time, he tried to do research in this way, of course to no avail.
Mathematics education should work for mathematical development of younger generation rather than for certification. Talent must be searched and nurtured and a sense of academic citizenship should be given to these students.
